55DSL knows life moves pretty fast. That’s why their motto is to “live at least 55 seconds per day”—to shake things up on a regular basis and always get in on a piece of the action. It’s what they’ve been doing, as a company and as a streetwear brand, since 1984.
And they’re at it again this year, partnering with Cut&Paste to present the 55DSL Logo Remix. The Logo Remix challenges graphic designers, illustrators, and typographers, as well as all-around creative types, to take the iconic 55DSL Shield logo and spin it into a remix that reflects 55DSL’s culture and spirit, its origins and its future.
The Grand Prize–winning design, to be featured in 55DSL's 2010 spring/summer 10.55 limited edition collection in collaboration with international artists and designers–will successfully reinterpret the 55DSL Shield logo and represent 55DSL’s identity as an experimental, avant-garde streetwear brand (which first launched as a spin-off of Diesel), while considering the art, urban culture, extreme sports, and music influences that have always been at the heart of the label’s fun-loving, nonconformist attitude.
The Grand Prize winner of the 55DSL Logo Remix will receive 1,055€ in addition to seeing his/her logo design produced by 55DSL.* During the contest period, all designs submitted for the Logo Remix will be showcased in Cut&Paste’s online gallery for public viewing, commenting, and voting. The People’s Choice Prize, a specially created goodie bag of 55DSL limited editions, will be awarded to the design that receives the most votes online. Both winners will be featured in the online gallery, which will be permanently available as part of Cut&Paste’s online collection of work.

Contestants may submit their designs on http://logoremix.55DSL.com during the entry period beginning October 22, 2008, and ending on December 5, 2008. All entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on December 5, 2008.
Online voting on Cut&Paste’s 55DSL Logo Remix gallery will take place throughout the entry period and conclude on December 12, 2008, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The Grand Prize and People’s Choice Prize winners will be announced in January 2009.
In addition to receiving 1,055€, the Grand Prize winner’s redesign will be featured in 55DSL’s 2010 spring/summer 10.55 limited edition collection in collaboration with international artists and designers. The winner of the 55DSL Logo Remix will be promoted in the marketing of the T-shirt, and the winning design will be featured in 55DSL’s 2010 Spring/Summer catalog and in stores. The Grand Prize winner’s design will also be featured in Cut&Paste’s permanent online gallery.
The People’s Choice Prize winner will receive a one-of-a-kind 55DSL goodie bag filled with items from 55DSL’s limited edition collections. The People’s Choice Prize winner will also be featured in Cut&Paste’s permanent online gallery.
Contestants may use any colors of their choice, but if using red and blue, the institutional colors Pantone 200C and Pantone 293C must be used.
Contestants must include the 55DSL Shield logo in their designs and should not alter the aspect ratio of the 55DSL Shield logo. Note: For T-shirt production purposes, 55DSL maintains the right to resize and position the winning logo design as needed.
Logo designs should be created as vector images using Pantone color swatches.
All contest entries should be submitted online as low-resolution RGB files, 800 pixels wide. Only jpeg, png, and gif file formats will be accepted.
Upon selection, the Grand Prize winner will need to supply vector files of his/her logo design.
There is no limitation on the types of tools that can be used to create this logo.
This download is to be used for the 55DSL Logo Remix only; any unauthorized use will result in legal action.
Submissions will be evaluated for the following criteria:
At the conclusion of the entry period, Cut&Paste will manage an initial vetting process to narrow the submissions down to thirty entries for the judges’ review. Each of these 30 entries will be scored by a distinguished panel of judges invited by Cut&Paste and 55DSL. Based on the judges’ scores, the top five submissions will be selected as finalists. A creative panel from 55DSL will then evaluate the finalist entries and select one to be awarded the Grand Prize.
All eligible submissions will be showcased in an online gallery on the Cut&Paste website. All submissions in the gallery will be available for public viewing. Registered users will be able to comment on any work and vote for their favorite submissions for the People’s Choice Prize. Users may vote for more than one submission, but are prohibited from casting multiple votes for a single submission. People’s Choice voting will run from October 22, 2008, through December 12, 2008, 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time. At the end of this period, the single submission with the most votes will be named the winner of the People’s Choice Prize. In the event of a tie at 12:00 a.m. on December 13, 2008, the voting period will be extended until the next deciding vote can be counted.
The 55DSL Logo Remix is open to all individuals age 18 years or older. Teams, companies, and firms may submit entries, but each submission must be accompanied by a primary contact who meets the eligibility criteria.
The contest is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Myanmar (Burma), or to other individuals restricted by U.S. export controls and sanctions, and is void in any other nation, state, or province where prohibited or restricted by U.S. or local law.
